Getting to the Amazon from Quito

Reaching the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador is easier than you might think. From Quito, you can take a quick 30-minute flight to the riverside town of Coca, or opt for a scenic overland adventure—approximately 6 hours by car. Many travelers choose to break up the road trip over a couple of days, allowing time to enjoy Ecuador’s stunning Andean highlands on the way.

Once in Coca, your adventure begins. You’ll head to the dock and board a motorized canoe for a breathtaking 2- to 3-hour journey down the Napo River, a major tributary of the Amazon River. Keep your eyes open—you might spot toucans, monkeys, or even river dolphins during the ride.

 

Arriving at Your Amazon Lodge

Depending on your lodge or eco-resort, you’ll disembark at a designated stop, where your personal naturalist guide awaits. From here, you’ll glide silently through narrow jungle canals in a dugout canoe, paddled by your guide. Surrounded by dense rainforest and the sounds of nature, this tranquil ride sets the stage for the immersive Amazon experience that awaits.

Upon arrival at your Amazon rainforest lodge, you’ll be warmly welcomed and shown to your room.  Most guests stay for at least 3 nights to fully explore the area and make the most of the guided excursions offered.
